The approach that Cornerstone Construction takes to the environment can be simply summed up in one word: Stewardship. It is our belief that the world we live in and all that make it up are a gift to all mankind. Our planet is not ours to consume, but rather it is ours to enjoy and sustain for ourselves and generations to come.

We look at construction through that lens and take a reasonable and balanced approach to promoting green or eco-friendly building practices into our projects. We consider environmental impacts in our design process, building practices, material selection and energy consumption and balance it with the realties in which we live.

When people think of  "eco-building" or "green" building, they often think of mud houses built into the side of a hill with massive solar panels on the roof. That simply does not have to be the case today.

As a builder, Cornerstone Construction has a responsibility to be at the forefront of reasonable sustainable building practices. Every step a homeowner can take to better use our precious resources is a step toward a better, cleaner, healthier, and sustainable planet. Our efforts to be an eco-friendly builder can be broken down into several categories: planning, materials, systems and building practices.

Planning
This is the first line of defense in working to make sure every home is as energy efficient and eco-friendly as possible, and it doesn’t even cost any money! Taking into account the surrounding environment, existing vegetation, and the home's orientation can make a huge difference in its impact on its immediate environment, as well as its impact on the broader environment, in terms of the energy and resources consumed to construct and maintain that structure.

Materials
Never before in the history of modern homebuilding has there been such a vast array of eco-friendly building materials than there is today. Cornerstone Construction is committed to utilizing these materials when applicable and economical. We look for manufacturers with similar commitments to environmental sustainability as ourselves. Ultimately a product should be good for the consumer as well as good for the environment.

Some examples would be using lumber from certified sustainable fast- rowth forests, materials made in whole or in part from recycled materials, materials free of chemicals such as formaldehyde free insulation (reduces toxic out-gassing inside the home), and materials that will stand the test of time such as Insulated Concrete Forms. Read more about Eco-Friendly Building techniques.

Systems
When thinking about eco-friendly building many people focus on the materials used to build. But one of the most important components to an eco-friendly home is the systems inside that make it work: plumbing, electrical and heating and cooling.

Making sure that your energy efficient home has the most efficient systems making it run is not only eco-friendly but budget-friendly too.
